TCPS COVID-19 Updates

Updated August 30, 2022

COVID-19 Daily Screening Symptom Tool

Parents/Guardians play a key role in ensuring the safety of our community by actively screening their child(ren) for symptoms of COVID-19 on a daily basis prior to arriving at school.

All students and staff are required to complete the Ontario Government COVID-19 school screening tool at home prior to attending school every day.  This daily assessment will determine whether the student should attend school that day.

Back to School Plan 2022-2023

The health, safety, and well-being of our students, parents and staff is always our primary concern and top priority.

TCPS has implemented detailed protocols for students and staff reinforcing the importance of hand hygiene and staying home if feeling unwell.  Based on the advice of the Office of the Chief Medical Officer of Health, masks will not be required for students, staff, and visitors in schools. We strongly encourage everyone to be respectful for individuals who choose to wear, or not to wear a mask within the school.

In addition, the School has dedicated full-time maintenance staff for each campus during the day to ensure all high-touch surfaces are cleaned and disinfected multiple times through each day plus detailed sanitization of the school by our night cleaning staff. With the advent of the COVID-19 pandemic, TCPS has made significant changes to our school structure to give greater flexibility to our parents. Parents of our Pre-School preparatory level, senior preparatory level and grades 1 – 12 students have the option of In-Person or Remote Learning programs.

Below is the link to Town Centre Private Schools’ Back to School Plan 2022-2023  for our Pre-School, Elementary and High School Divisions. This document details the policies and procedures currently in place to protect our students and staff alike. The Back to School Plan 2022-2023 was developed based on guidance from the Occupational Health and Safety Act, the Ministry of Education and York Region Public Health.

We recognize that these are unprecedented times and thank our students, parents and staff for their efforts.  It is good to see the students in class, having fun and focusing on their studies.

Optional Remote Learning Program

Medical professionals across Canada have repeatedly recommended that students should return to class in September, to support their mental and emotional well-being. Nevertheless, the school recognizes that some parents may be hesitant to return their children to in-class instruction at this time. To support parents, the school has a Remote Learning program available, for students in Preparatory, Senior Preparatory and Grades 1 to 12.

Students participating in the complete online learning are taught by their regular class teacher, following the same 9:00 a.m. – 3:30 p.m. academic schedule and are engaged throughout the academic day interacting with their class teacher, subject teachers and fellow classmates. Teachers continue to provide tutorial support for students who require assistance beyond their regular class time.

To pre-register your child for Remote Learning, please click on the link below, complete the form and submit it via the link provided. The Remote Learning program does not include a before-school or after-school care component. Details of our Remote Learning program are included in our Back to School Plan.  For parents who wish their children to continue with in-class instruction, no action is necessary.

Returning to In-Class Instruction

To maintain health and safety measures, and respect class sizes, parents who wish to have their child(ren) return to in-class, face to face instruction can only do so at specified re-entry points throughout the year. Furthermore, as per the direction of the Ministry of Education, students may not be able to move between remote and in-person learning and parents should anticipate the possibility to be wait-listed if they change their mind. Students will have opportunities at the specified re-entry dates depending on availability of appropriate class placement.
