A Joyful Journey of Discovery: Amarillo Campus Chick Hatching Experience

On April 22nd, the Amarillo Campus launched its cherished annual Chick Hatching Program—an enriching tradition that brings science to life for our young learners. Carefully selected eggs were placed in a specialized incubator, where they remained for 21 days in a precisely controlled environment of warmth and humidity, supporting each stage of healthy development.

Anticipation grew throughout the campus as hatching day approached. On Wednesday, May 13, students experienced the magic firsthand when the first chick began to gently peck its way out of the shell. After pausing to rest, it completed its remarkable effort and emerged into the world—a moment of wonder for all who witnessed it. By the end of day 21, five fluffy chicks had hatched, delighting students and staff alike.

Throughout the week, children had the unique opportunity to observe, visit, and carefully hold the chicks—transforming a scientific process into an unforgettable, hands-on learning experience. This close interaction fostered curiosity, compassion, and a deeper appreciation for life sciences.

Now growing quickly, some of the chicks have been adopted by TCPS staff and the remainder will return to the farm. While their stay was brief, the joy, excitement, and sense of discovery they inspired will leave a lasting impression on our students—sparking curiosity and nurturing a lifelong love of learning.
