Celebrating Black History Month at TCPSElementary School NewsHigh School NewsTCPS News News TCPS News Pre-School News Elementary School News High School News Imagify February marked the 30th anniversary of Canada’s official recognition of Black History Month. At TCPS, our school community honoured Black Brilliance—past, present, and future by celebrating the remarkable contributions and achievements of Black Canadians across generations. Throughout the month, students participated in rich and meaningful learning experiences. Our Elementary students researched influential Black figures and created radio‑style announcements that were shared over the PA system. Classes crafted short scripts highlighting key accomplishments, allowing students to build confidence in both their voices and their understanding of Black history. Our High School students embraced Black History Month through daily announcements, quote-of-the-day reflections, curated music selections, and classroom events spotlighting figures such as Willie O’Ree, Lincoln Alexander, George Elliott Clarke, and Oscar Peterson. A special highlight was the Grade 10 Gallery Walk, where students presented thoughtful and beautifully crafted displays honouring influential Black leaders in literature, music, innovation, sports, and activism. Their work not only celebrated these legacies but also deepened our collective understanding of the profound impact of Black Canadians throughout history.
