MUN offers an engaging platform for students to role-play as delegates from different countries, learning about diplomacy, international relations, and the workings of the United Nations. Through participation, students develop essential skills such as public speaking, critical thinking, research, collaboration, and leadership, while fostering global awareness and respect for diverse perspectives. On November 22–23, TCPS students joined the Markham Model United Nations (MarkMUN) conference, alongside delegates from 14 other schools, including the TDSB, YRDSB, DDSB and other private schools. MarkMUN, a nonprofit organization, strives to deliver a high-quality MUN experience while promoting charitable initiatives that benefit the global community. The conference featured 14 committees, replicating real UN bodies such as the World Health Organization (WHO), Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), United Nations Office for Outer Space Affairs (UNOOSA), and more.
