Grade 8 Students Host a Winter Market for Their MYP Community ProjectElementary School NewsTCPS News News TCPS News Pre-School News Elementary School News High School News Students in Grades 6–8 at TCPS participate in the International Baccalaureate Middle Years Programme (IB MYP), a framework designed to nurture well-rounded, lifelong learners who take pride in their educational journey. A cornerstone of the MYP is service learning, which encourages students to engage meaningfully with their communities. Through this process, students explore their own interests, develop a sense of responsibility, and reflect on their learning both inside and outside the classroom. Service learning opportunities may take place within the school, as well as at the local, national, or international level. These experiences empower students to give back while supporting causes they care deeply about. Along the way, they build community awareness, learn to balance multiple commitments, and develop essential skills such as collaboration, resilience, independence, and thoughtful reflection. As part of their MYP Community Project, Grade 8 students investigated a range of local and global issues and incorporated fundraising into their action plans. On February 6, they proudly hosted a Winter Market for the school community, offering baked goods, candies, sweet treats, and handmade arts and crafts. The event was a tremendous success, raising a total of $2,032.40 in support of the following organizations: Canadian Cancer Society Crisis Text Line Princess Margaret Cancer Centre Senior Tamil Centre SickKids Hospital 10,000 Trees The Autism Centre of Toronto Unplugged Canada We extend our sincere thanks to everyone who supported the Winter Market. Your generosity and encouragement made this meaningful learning experience possible and helped our students turn compassion into action.
