Grade 9 Outdoor Education Leadership Experience: Building Character Through AdventureHigh School NewsTCPS News News TCPS News Pre-School News Elementary School News High School News With great enthusiasm, the Grade 9 students of Town Centre Private Schools (TCPS) embarked on our annual Outdoor Education Leadership Experience—an unforgettable journey designed to foster personal growth, teamwork, and resilience. From September 17th to 19th, our students traveled to the Camp Wanakita Leadership Centre, nestled in the breathtaking Haliburton Highlands. With over six decades of excellence in outdoor education, Camp Wanakita is renowned for its immersive leadership programs that challenge and inspire youth and adults alike. This three-day adventure—an integral component of TCPS’s Physical Education curriculum—offered students a unique opportunity to connect with nature, build lasting friendships, and develop essential life skills. Highlights included: High ropes challenge that tested courage and perseverance Fire-building and survival games that encouraged problem-solving and collaboration Orienteering and compass navigation, teaching students how to confidently explore unfamiliar terrain Archery sessions that promoted focus, patience, and precision Eco-hike to a beaver dam, fostering environmental awareness and appreciation for local ecosystems Scenic hikes and outdoor exploration that deepened appreciation for the natural world Lakeside campfire with s’mores, where students bonded over stories and laughter under the stars More than just an excursion, this experience is a cherished TCPS tradition that cultivates leadership, camaraderie, and a sense of community in a dynamic, hands-on environment. Year after year, it continues to be a transformative milestone for both students and educators—where learning extends far beyond the classroom walls.
