Learn Not to Burn: A Firefighter Experience to Remember

This engaging and educational program, designed especially for younger elementary students, is led by Captain Don and his dedicated team from the Markham Fire Department. Offered to students in Grades 1 through 3, the program features interactive fire safety sessions held throughout the school year. Firefighters share important safety information, answer students’ questions, and emphasize key practices such as regularly checking smoke detectors and developing a family fire escape plan.

A highlight of the program took place on May 31st, when the fire department visited the school. Students were thrilled to explore a real fire truck, get an up-close look at firefighting equipment, and even try their hand at using a fire hose—with a little help from a firefighter, of course!

This memorable experience was a fantastic addition to our school’s programming and was thoroughly enjoyed by all the students.
