Each year the high school students participate in a wide variety of academic challenges and competitions.  Our students have traditionally performed very well in these competitions demonstrating the quality and strength of the TCPS program.

University of Waterloo Canadian Intermediate and Senior Mathematics Contest (CSMC)

The Canadian Intermediate and Senior Mathematics Contests (CIMC and CSMC) are two contests that run concurrently by grade level. They are designed to give students the opportunity to have fun and develop their mathematical problem-solving abilities. These contests are oversee by the University of Waterloo Centre for the Education in Mathematics and Computing.

University of Waterloo Euclid Contest

Written annually by over 25 000 participants worldwide, the Euclid Contest gives senior-level secondary school students the opportunity to solve innovative problems using their creativity and all of the knowledge they have gained in secondary school mathematics.

University of Waterloo Mathematics Contest

The University of Waterloo Centre for Education in Mathematics and Computing develops and administers many internationally recognized contests to help to inspire the next generation of students to develop an interest in and love for mathematics and computer science.  At the high school level these include the Pascal (grade 9 ), Fryer (grade 9), Cayley (grade 10), Galois (grade 10), Fermat (grade 11), Hypatia (grade 11), Euclid (grade 12) and the Canadian Senior Mathematics Contest.

Canadian Mathematical Society Canadian Lynx Mathematical Competition

This competition was created to foster an interest in mathematics among students regardless of their skill level, to increase student confidence in their math abilities, and to present mathematics as a fun and engaging subject.

Canadian Mathematical Society Canadian Open Mathematics Challenge

The Canadian Open Mathematics Challenge (COMC) is a national math competition for high school students in Canada, organized by the Canadian Mathematical Society (CMS). The purpose of the COMC is to encourage students to explore, discover, and learn more about mathematics and problem solving.

University of Waterloo Financial Literacy Competition

Sponsored by Genworth Canada, The Financial Literacy Competition (FLC), developed by the University of Waterloo School of Accounting and Finance (SAF) in collaboration with Business Studies teachers within the Waterloo Region, is open to Grade 9 and 10 students. FLC is an avenue for secondary school teachers to encourage their students to challenge and hone their knowledge in personal finance, accounting and wealth management, as well as to strengthen their literacy foundation in preparation for their future.

University of Waterloo Avogadro Chemistry Exam

The Avogadro Exam Contest is designed for Grade 11 high school students in their first high school chemistry course. Topics include structure of matter, bonding, reactions, solutions, and gases. The test includes a few probing and demanding questions on some of the main topics of high school chemistry.

University of Waterloo Chem 13 News Exam

The Chem 13 News Exam is designed for Grade 12 high school chemistry students in their second high school Chemistry course. Topics include: organic chemistry, equilibria, kinetics, oxidation-reduction, bonding, structure, reactions, solutions, and gases.

University of Toronto National Biology Competition

The University of Toronto National Biology Competition provides students with an opportunity to test their knowledge and understanding of biology.

University of Waterloo Canadian Computing Competition

The Canadian Computing Competition (CCC) is a fun challenge for secondary school students with an interest in programming. It is an opportunity for students to test their ability in designing, understanding and implementing algorithms.

York Region Science and Technology Fair

The York Region Science and Technology Fair is a regional Science Fair that showcases student research performed by students in grades 7-12. Participation in the fair is open to students currently attending a York Region public, catholic, or private school, are homeschooled, or who reside in York Region. Selected top projects from the York Region Science and Technology Fair are invited to represent York Region and compete at the Canada Wide Science Fair.

Since attending the York Region Science and Technology Fair, a TCPS student has advanced to the Canada Wide Science Fair each year.

DECA Business Competition

DECA is an organization that teaches high school students business terms with branches in Marketing, Finance, Business Management, Hospitality, and Administration. Through conferences and competitions, DECA prepares youth to respond to authentic business cases and market demands.

SSAF

The SSAF offers athletic competition for our elementary and high school students. This sports league offers the students a chance to try out and compete against other schools in inter-school competitions.

TCPS competes at the high school level (grades 9 – 12) with boys, girls and co-educational sports teams. The SSAF provides our students the opportunity to demonstrate their school spirit and show sportsmanship in friendly competitions.
