TCPS Students Unite for Earth Day Clean‑Up at Highgate ParkElementary School NewsTCPS News News TCPS News Pre-School News Elementary School News High School News Earth Day is an annual global event dedicated to raising awareness of environmental issues and encouraging community action. On Wednesday, April 22, the Elementary Student Activity Council (SAC), along with Grade 6 students and their teachers, proudly took part by walking to Highgate Park for a community clean‑up. As part of their International Baccalaureate (IB) Middle Years Programme (MYP) community project, two Grade 8 students, Dahlia C. and Hamza M., along with the SAC, led the group of students in this year’s Earth Day clean‑up. One of the MYP project’s core components is Service as Action, which means students are expected to go beyond the classroom and take meaningful steps to help their communities and the world around them. Working collaboratively in small groups, students helped clean the park, field, and surrounding playground areas, filling several bags with refuse and leaving the space noticeably refreshed. The TCPS team was especially honoured by a visit from our very own Ward 8 Councillor, Isa Lee, who stopped by for a meet‑and‑greet with the students. It was incredibly rewarding for students to be personally thanked by Councillor Lee for their efforts in helping keep Markham beautiful. TCPS is proud to be an ongoing supporter of the City of Markham. From our Terry Fox Run to SSAF sports, Summer Camp, and beyond, Highgate Park has long been an integral part of the TCPS experience. We are grateful for the opportunity to give back to such an important community space and to play our part in caring for our local environment.
