In 1980, Terry Fox, a young Canadian whose life was profoundly impacted by cancer, embarked on an extraordinary journey that would inspire generations. After losing his right leg to osteogenic sarcoma, Terry set out on the Marathon of Hope, determined to raise awareness and funds for cancer research. With remarkable courage and perseverance, he ran the equivalent of a marathon every day, covering 5,373 kilometres from St. John’s, Newfoundland, to Thunder Bay, Ontario. Although his journey was cut short when his cancer returned, Terry’s vision and unwavering spirit continue to unite Canadians in the fight against cancer more than four decades later.

This year, Town Centre Private Schools proudly marked its 21st consecutive annual Terry Fox Run, bringing together students, staff, and families in support of a cause that continues to touch countless lives. On September 28th, students from Pre-School through Grade 12 participated in walking, jogging, and running that celebrated Terry’s legacy of determination, hope, and selflessness. Students at the Amarillo Campus completed their run in the playfield, while Clayton Campus students took part in activities in the new school playfield and at nearby Highgate Park.

The Terry Fox Run remains one of TCPS’s most meaningful community initiatives, providing an opportunity for students to make a difference while learning the importance of compassion and giving back. This year, the school has set an ambitious fundraising goal of $10,000 for the Terry Fox Foundation. Since first participating in 2006, the TCPS community has raised an outstanding $263,283.78 in support of cancer research, with this year’s final fundraising total still being calculated.

The annual Terry Fox Run is a powerful reminder that when a community comes together for a common cause, even the smallest steps can have a lasting impact.
