In 1980, Terry Fox—a young Canadian whose life was forever changed by cancer—embarked on an extraordinary mission: to run across Canada and raise awareness and funds for cancer research. Despite losing his right leg to the disease, Terry demonstrated unwavering determination and resilience, running an average of 42 kilometers per day—the equivalent of a marathon. His journey, known as the Marathon of Hope, spanned 5,373 kilometers from St. John’s, Newfoundland to Thunder Bay, Ontario, before his illness forced him to stop. Terry passed away in June 1981, just shy of his 23rd birthday, but his legacy continues to inspire millions around the world.

For the 20th consecutive year, Town Centre Private Schools (TCPS) proudly honoured Terry’s legacy by hosting its annual Terry Fox Run. Over the past several days, students from Pre-School through Grade 12 participated in this meaningful event, walking, jogging, and running in support of cancer research. At the Amarillo Campus, students ran in the gymnasium; at the Main Campus, younger elementary students ran in the parking lot, while students in Grades 6 to 12 ran at nearby Highgate Park.

This event is a true testament to community spirit, with students, families, and staff coming together to support a cause that transcends generations. TCPS has set an ambitious fundraising goal of $10,000 for the Terry Fox Foundation this year. Since 2006, the school has raised an impressive total of $256,201.48, and the final total for this year’s run is currently being calculated.

Terry Fox’s legacy lives on through the enthusiastic participation of our students and the generous contributions of our community. The annual run not only strengthens school spirit but also reinforces the values of compassion, perseverance, and civic responsibility.
