Main Campus Grades 2 – 8 April Bulletin TCPS Students Earn Silver and Bronze at the York Region Science and Technology Fair The York Region Science and Technology Fair is a regional Science Fair that showcases student research from students in grades 7 to 12. On April 6th, the top 5 grade 8 winners of TCPS STEM Fair participated in this year’s Fair hosted by York University. Congratulations to Radin G. who received a Silver Medal with his project “Are we Breathing Wrong?” Congratulations to Cassia S. who received a Bronze Medal with her project “Danger: Hypoxic Waters Ahead.” Cassia also was awarded the Canadian Meteorological and Oceanographic Society (CMS) Award Second Place Prize. This prize is given for projects in the field of Meteorological and Oceanographic Sciences including projects on the topics of weather, air quality, climate, climate change, oceans and related sciences. Cassia received the second place prize of $75. This is the 3rd year that Town Centre has entered this competition and TCPS students have been awarded medals each year. Outstanding results for the students at Town Centre Private Schools! Grade 6 & 8 STEM Fair Science Technology Engineering Mathematics Fair Winners! The April 22nd STEM Fair provided students in grades 6 and 8 with the opportunity to apply the scientific method to conduct independent research on a topic of their choice. The students’ efforts were displayed in the Main Gymnasium where finalists presented their projects to fellow students, parents and judges. Students were evaluated on proper usage of the scientific method, demonstrating an understanding of the topic, display and verbal presentation. Congratulations to this year’s winners of the annual STEM Fair! Grade 6 Winners 1st Place: Saiyuri C. “The Effectiveness of Antacids on Acid Reflux” 2nd Place: Galaxy Y. “Loop Coaster” 3rd Place: Aahana Agrawal “Maglev: Number of Magnets to Stop a Train at a Safe Distance” Grade 8 Winners 1st Place: Cassia S. “Danger: Hypoxic Waters Ahead” 2nd Place: Owen O. “Bacteriophage” 3rd Place: Shaan S. “Making an Artificial Pancreas” 4th Place: Aayan R. “Meat Mastery: Beat the Bacteria Blues with Fridge-Defrost and Oven Bliss” 5th Place: Radin G. “Are we Breathing Wrong?” The judges had a very difficult task of selecting our grade winners.
