The U12 Soccer Team are SSAF Indoor Soccer Champions once again! On Thursday, November 23, the soccer team played in the soccer tournament held at the Hangar in Downsview. TC won their first three games by a combined score of 10-0. After the round robin games, TC finished 1st overall to set up a semi final against Prestige School. TC prevailed once more with a 3-0 victory. The final game was set against CMS. TC opened the scoring with a quick goal, followed by a quick response by CMS. With the score tied 1-1, TC were pressing to find the go-ahead goal. With many chances saved by the CMS goalie, the game went into sudden death extra time. After one extra time the game was still tied 1-1. In the second extra time, with penalty shots approaching, a kick-in was played down the wing, the ball was crossed into the 18-yard box and with a striking blow, the ball was buried into the back of the net, TC were champions! The player’s excitement was too much as they cheered and celebrated on the field. The skill and determination of these young players led to their crowning achievement. Congratulations to the U12 Soccer Team for winning the Championship! Elementary Anti-Bullying Week For the month of November, the IB Learner Profile focus was Thinkers. We want to encourage our students to use critical and creative thinking skills to analyse and take responsible action on complex problems. To coincide with the IB Learner Profile focus, TCPS held its annual Anti-Bullying Week from November 20th to 24th with the national theme this year being “MAKE A NOISE”! Anti-Bullying Week commenced with Yellow Ribbons and Odd Sock Day. Students tied yellow ribbon on the playfield fence in recognition of anti-bullying awareness. Students also wore odd socks to represent everyone’s uniqueness and individuality. On Monday, students also attended a special presentation that inspired the audience to “find their magic” with positive affirmations demonstrated through the world of wonder! Brent and Sarah’s Magic Show is an impressive performance made a spectacular start to our Anti-Bullying Week! Tuesday marked our very popular “Buddy Day”, pairing students from different classes together and giving them an opportunity to participate in interactive activities that encourages them to practice anti-bullying techniques in age-appropriate scenarios. Wednesday was devoted to House League Intramurals in the Main Gymnasium focusing on cooperation and good sportsmanship. Following Thursday’s pink shirt day, the students and staff wrapped up the week on Friday watching a video that recaptured the week’s events and included a special message from our Elementary Student Activity Council. The Anit-Bullying Week heightened awareness, promoted a safe school environment and created a positive learning experience. McMaster STEM Workshop The TCPS High School has formed an exciting new educational partnership with McMaster University and their MacEng Outreach program. This program, for TCPS high school students, provides additional STEM opportunities focusing on skill-building as well as general university guidance. On November 21st, the grade 9 and 10 students participated in an onsite interactive STEM workshop, hosted by members of the MacEng group from McMaster University. Students constructed their own electrical windmill circuit bringing together concepts from Civil Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, and Affordable and Clean Energy! Students learned the basic physics behind the energy conversion of wind into electricity and also learned how the inside circuitry of windmills works. Additionally, students explored the basics of a motor and how mechanical engineers apply science to solve problems. This was a great special event for the grade 9 and 10 students. We look forward to additional educational events with McMaster University! Previous Page 1 Interim pages omitted … Page 34 Page 35 Page 36 Page 37 Page 38 Interim pages omitted … Page 115 Next
