Elementary April 2023 Bulletin TCPS creates a monthly Grades 2 – 8 information bulletin for our parents and students. Enjoy our April issue. Science Technology Engineering Mathematics Fair Winners! The March 23rd STEM Fair provided students in grades 6 and 8 with the opportunity to apply the scientific method to conduct independent research on a topic of their choice. The students’ efforts were displayed in the Main Gymnasium where finalists presented their projects to fellow students, parents and judges. Students were evaluated on proper usage of the scientific method, demonstrating an understanding of the topic, display and verbal presentation. Congratulations to this year’s winners of the annual STEM Fair! Grade 6 Winners 1st Place: Anna L. “The Strength of Origami”2nd Place: Nathan M. “Stealthy Shapes”3rd Place: Gibran S. “ChatGPT vs Google” Grade 8 Winners 1st Place: Haaniya N.J. “Corrode Away! Eliminating Corrosion2nd Place: Kristopher, N. “Trash to Treasurer”3rd Place: Gursher S. “The Effect of Garlic on Bacteria”4th Place: Bodhi, C. “Dampening Decibels – What Sound Proofing Material is the Best”5th Place: Aarin N. “Disposal Bag Fad” The judges had a very difficult task of selecting our grade winners. Thank you to the participants and finalists for their hard work and congratulations to our grades 6 and 8 winners. The top 5 students in grade 8 will advance to the York Region STEM Fair at York University on Saturday, April 1st. Elementary International Day On Thursday, March 9th the elementary students participated in the school’s International Day. This annual event is a wonderful cross cultural experience with students learning about multiculturalism and celebrating Canada’s diversity. The students wore traditional clothing and brought in special cuisine from their country of origin for their class. Students attended a special assembly in the afternoon which included a variety of student performances celebrating multiculturalism through song, dance, speeches and instrumental performances.
