Canadian Red Cross Relief Efforts for Hurricane Fiona Over September 23rd and 24th, the Atlantic provinces were struck by Hurricane Fiona causing extensive damage. In an effort to assist our fellow Canadians, Town Centre Private Schools held a special school-wide initiative to raise funds for the Canadian Red Cross Relief Efforts for Hurricane Fiona in Eastern Canada. The Canadian Red Cross is working to get help to people in and around affected areas as quickly as possible and provide humanitarian assistance for new needs as they arise. Money raised will enable the Red Cross to carry out relief, recovery, resiliency and risk reduction activities in and beyond the region at the individual and community levels. Collectively TCPS raised $1,930.50 for the Red Cross Relief Fund. This amount will be matched by the provincial government. Thank you to our students, parents and staff for their generosity. If you wish to make a contribution to the Red Cross, please visit their website at https://www.redcross.ca/how-we-help/current-emergency-responses/hurricane-fiona-2022. Thank You for Supporting the Terry Fox Foundation! For the 17th consecutive year, the students and staff at Town Centre Private Schools from the Pre-School, Elementary and High School Divisions have embraced Terry’s dream to find a cure for cancer. Leading up to our annual Terry Fox Run, the focus was on fundraising and creating awareness of Terry Fox, while highlighting his courage and determination in his attempt to run across Canada. Terry Fox’s memory and legacy continues to grow through student involvement and generous financial contributions, all the while fostering our school spirit and our commitment to “give back” to our community and support this worthy cause. This year, Town Centre Private Schools collectively raised $12,550.70, surpassing our goal of $10,000. Since 2006, TCPS has raised an amazing grand total of $237,709.24 for the Terry Fox Foundation! Thank you to the students and their families for their generosity and support year after year for this worthy cause. We could not do it without you! Terry Fox and Town Centre: His Legacy Continues In 1980, Terry Fox set a personal goal to run across Canada to raise awareness and collect financial support for cancer research. With one leg amputated due to cancer, he ran an average of 42 km a day, the distance of a typical marathon. He faced his illness with courage and determination, however, Terry’s cancer spread to his lung and he had to abandon his run after covering 5,373 km from St. John’s, Newfoundland to Thunder Bay, Ontario. In the summer of 1981, he succumbed to his illness one month before his 23rd birthday. Terry’s “Marathon of Hope” not only captured our nation’s heart and attention but it also captivated communities in countries around the world. We can each learn a great deal from Terry Fox and use his example of strength, determination and generosity as a focus in our everyday lives. For the 17th consecutive year, the students and staff at Town Centre Private Schools have embraced Terry’s dream to find a cure for cancer and held our annual Terry Fox Run on the morning of Friday, September 23rd. Students from Pre-School to High School participated in the name of Terry Fox and walked, jogged or ran in support of cancer research. At the Amarillo Campus the students ran in the playfield and Gymnasium. At the Main Campus, the younger elementary students ran in the parking lot and our grade 7 to 12 students ran at nearby Highgate Park. Students, parents and close relatives supported the walk with generous donations and we are hoping to reach our goal of raising $10,000 this year for the Terry Fox Foundation. Terry Fox’s memory and legacy continues to grow through student involvement and generous financial contributions, all the while fostering our school spirit and our commitment to “give back” to our community and support this worthy cause. Since 2006, TCPS has raised an amazing grand total of $216,017.43 for the Terry Fox Foundation.
