Working Together to Keep Markham Beautiful! As a part of Earth Day activities on April 22nd, the grade 8 classes of Town Centre Private Schools participated in an Earth Day Clean-Up at Highgate Park as part of an IB Middle Years Programme Community Project. Earth Day is an annual global event that aims to bring awareness to environmental issues. The TCPS team collected garbage filling several bags with the refuse. Our very own Ward 8 Councillor, Isa Lee, stopped by the park for a meet and greet with our students. It was gratifying for the students to be personally thanked by Councillor Lee for “pitching in” to help keep Markham beautiful. TCPS continues to be a proud City of Markham supporter! TCPS Green Club’s Earth Day Workshop First celebrated on April 22, 1970, Earth Day has become a worldwide event in support of protecting the environment. This year, thousands of events were planned globally with more than 193 countries taking part. As part of the TCPS Earth Day celebration, the TCPS Green Club held an Earth Day Workshop on April 22nd. The official theme of this year’s Earth Day is “Invest in Our Planet: What We Can Do to Help Create a Sustainable Future.” During the workshop, the Green Club gave a presentation about some of the ways we can be more eco-friendly in our daily lives. Students also participated in some fun activities about sustainability, one of which was calculating our environmental footprint and growing plants to lessen its effects! A very special thank you to Jolene U., Maliha H., and Binjian Y., for demonstrating such initiative and leadership; the workshop was educational, creative and fun. Visit www.earthday.org for more information on environmental protection.
