Grade 5 IB Primary Years Programme Exhibition As part of the International Baccalaureate Primary Years Programme (PYP) requirements, the grade 5 classes have been preparing for the PYP Exhibition. Over the past 10 weeks, the grade 5 students have undertaken an in-depth and collaborative inquiry project with the support of their teachers and teacher mentors. The Exhibition is a culminating project for the PYP. It is a collaborative inquiry in which students have a personal interest and requires them to apply their knowledge and skills acquired over their previous years within the PYP. The experience allows students to demonstrate initiative for taking action. The Exhibition is the ultimate summative assessment; however, it is also a link to the Middle Years Programme (MYP). The role of MYP is to augment the success students have made throughout the PYP years. The Exhibition sets the base for MYP teachers to build on. This base consists of teamwork, critical thinking and inquiry, problem-solving and risk taking, entrepreneurship and innovation. Certainly, skills and tools that will serve our students well in future years. This years’ Exhibition falls under the transdisciplinary theme of Sharing the Planet. Sharing the Planet is an inquiry into the following: the rights and responsibilities in the struggle to share finite resources with other people and with other living things, communities and the relationship within and between them, access to equal opportunities, peace and conflict resolution. The PYP Exhibition is a celebration of student learning and culminated with students showcasing their presentations in the Main Gymnasium on Friday, February 25th. There were 14 diverse topics ranging from racism, gender inequality, urbanization, animal extinction and pollution to name a few. A special thank you to the grade 5 teachers and the teacher mentors for guiding and supporting the grade 5 students in this learning experience. Congratulations to the grade 5 students who did an amazing job on their presentations!
