Learn Not to Burn Program

This specialized program for younger Elementary students is run with Captain Egan and her team from the Markham Fire Department.  Offered to students in grades 1 to 3, the fire fighters do information sessions throughout the school year and address questions from students regarding fire safety.  The program reinforces the need to check our smoke detectors to ensure they are working properly and how to create a fire escape plan with their families.

An annual highlight of this program occurred on May 31^st with a visit from the fire department where students had the opportunity to explore a fire truck and were shown the fire fighting equipment, how it’s used and even taking a turn experiencing what it’s like to turn on the fire hose with a little help from a fire fighter.

It was a wonderful addition to the school program and thoroughly enjoyed by our students.
