There are many opportunities for students to develop their talents in arts, music, drama, sports, and technology. Students work hard in school but also engage in fun activities that make their school life rewarding and memorable, through participation intramural and extra-curricular activities, after-school clubs, and special events. What is the biggest benefit of an IB programme?The students have really benefitted from attending Town Centre because the IB program really engages the students with many hands on, experiential learning activities that supplement conceptual learning. We have seen an increase in the interest and participation shown by our students. The IB programme’s core philosophy of developing the soft skills of inquiry, collaboration, reflection, and teamwork definitely helps to prepare students to be successful in the future. IB students have the chance to earn university credit. In addition, the program prepares students well for university admission. On average, IB students are more likely to get in to a university and also finish their degrees. What is the IB Prep Program?The prop program is designed to familiarize students with the IB program. Students will complete IB style assessments and learn the skills required to enter the full program in years 11 and 12. I completed my undergraduate degree in Health Sciences at Queen’s University (2020-2024) and am currently pursuing a Master’s in Interdisciplinary Medical Sciences at the University of Western Ontario (2024-2025). The transition to university was relatively smooth for me, particularly in academics. My time management skills, developed through the IB program, helped me manage the increased workload. I was well-prepared in academic writing, reading scientific papers, and proper citation skills. The biggest adjustment was adapting to living independently and navigating larger class sizes, which required more initiative when seeking help. From the start, I realized I had stronger time management skills compared to many of my peers. The rigorous workload from my high school years, especially due to the IB program, helped me handle university demands better. The end-of-year IB projects significantly enhanced my academic writing, which became one of my strongest assets in university. I also had a reliable study routine, while many others were still figuring out their approach. One of the greatest strengths of my TCPS high school experience was the availability of resources. The close-knit community made it easy to get involved in various clubs, sports teams, and initiatives, which boosted my résumé and helped me develop essential leadership, communication, and collaboration skills. Early involvement provided a head start in preparing for university success.
