The annual Arts Night is the culmination of many hours of work by dedicated TCPS students and staff. Thank you to all students and staff for their efforts in making this year’s production a great success. Bravo! A Special MYP Presentation on St. Michael’s Hospital Homeless Outreach Program For their final year of the Middle Years Programme (MYP), our grade 8 students completed their Community Projects. These projects are a year-long initiative where students investigate and take action on an issue, they are passionate about. For Aidan B. in grade 8, he is passionate about destigmatizing homelessness. Aidan has spent time researching the many factors and causes of homelessness, and what he and his peers can do to help solve this growing issue. Part of Aidan’s research included interviewing his mother, who works at St. Michael’s Hospital, and learning more about her experiences serving the homeless community as a Registered Nurse in downtown Toronto. This is where he was introduced to Fred Ellerington, a Homeless Outreach Worker at St. Michael’s Hospital. Mr. Ellerington generously offered to share his insights and experience about homelessness. On Monday, April 24th, the grades 7 and 8 students had the opportunity to attend an interview with Mr. Ellerington, to learn more about this pressing issue, and how they can get involved. Thank you to Aidan and Mr. Ellerington for conducting this informative presentation. Working Together to Keep Markham Beautiful! Earth Day is an annual global event that aims to bring awareness to environmental issues. On Friday, April 21st, the Elementary Student Activity Council (SAC) along with grade 6 students walked with their teachers to Highgate Park, where they worked in groups to clean up the park, field, and surrounding playground. The TCPS team filled several bags with the refuse. Our very own Ward 8 Councillor, Isa Lee, stopped by the park for a meet and greet with our students. It was gratifying for the students to be personally thanked by Councillor Lee helping to keep Markham beautiful. TCPS continues to be a proud City of Markham supporter! From our Terry Fox Run to SSAF sports to Summer Camp and beyond, Highgate Park has proven to be an indispensable part of the TC experience, and we are grateful for the opportunity to do our part and give back to our local community.
