Alumni Returns to TCPS to Teach a Neuroscience Workshop Former TCPS graduate Angie I. is currently pursuing her Undergraduate Health Sciences degree at Queen’s University. She recently returned to TCPS and conducted an informative Neuroscience workshop for our Grade 11 and 12 Psychology students. Angie discussed the parts of the brain and their function, neurotransmission, hormones, mental illness, and medication. An addition to the lesson, this was a great opportunity for current High School students to connect with our recent graduate and learn, first-hand, what to expect in university and to ask questions. Co-Ed Teams Win Gold and Silver at the SSAF Table Tennis Championship! On Wednesday, March 1st, Town Centre competed in the SSAF Elementary and High School Co-Ed Table Tennis tournament and won 3 medals! Congratulations to Srishti S. and Alisha S.R. for winning gold in Elementary Girls’ Doubles, to Jessica K. for winning silver in Elementary Girls’ Singles to Vibha S. and Leka S. who placed 3rd in High School Girls’ Doubles! Thanks to the skill and determination of our players, Town Centre Private School collectively placed 3rd overall in the Elementary Division. A huge thank you to all who came out. We hope to see you again next year! Black History Month at TCPS Every February is Black History Month and we had the opportunity to focus on and celebrate the many achievements and contributions of Black individuals and Black communities across Canada. Students participated in activities which allowed them to inquire and learn about the important achievements of Black activists, leaders, athletes and musicians. For example, the grade 2 students created biography banners, showcasing and researching the challenges and accomplishments of prominent Black individuals. Students and teachers engaged in discussions about race and difference and created wonderful Black History Month doors and bulletin boards to highlight the month long theme. As well, our teacher librarian Ms. Exharakos promoted Black authors and literature to the students visiting the LRC last month. The High School marked Black History Month weekly sharing various facts, videos and stories with our High School students to highlight and celebrate Black athletes, musicians, activists and young leaders throughout history. As we celebrate and recognize the Black communities throughout our past, present and future, we continue to educate ourselves on what positive change looks like.
